Watch Live Football Online - ITV Censor Everton's Goal
Football Live Online
In a fit of overzealous health and safety concerns ITV blocked viewers south of Liverpool from seeing Everton's winning goal, no doubt considering it too dangerous for viewers with a bad heart condition , we did get to see the celebrations however!
ITV's executive chairman Michael Grade made a personal apology on lunchtime news for an "inexcusable" advert break two minutes from the end of the Everton Liverpool Fa Cup Replay, which occurred right at the time in the live football match when Everton scored the only goal in 120 minutes of assorted tedium.
I had set my DVD recorder to record the match live and was sitting there waiting for th epenalty shoot out when all of a suddden the picture disappeared to be replaced by an ad for some rubbish, and when the match came back on Everton had score with just two minutes left.
I thought my DVD recorder had screwed up but it turns out it was ITV that screwed up.
Football fans were enraged ! Thousands have complained at having the climax of the match ruined.
Mr Grade said : "I’d like to apologise to all our viewers who were affected by last night’s unprecedented technical error. As a football fan myself I was glued to the match and was as disappointed as anyone to miss the goal. "
"We have years of experience in dealing with the changes in ad break patterns when games go into extra time and sometimes penalties - this we have done faultlessly through the Champions League, World Cup and European Championships. "
"Last night’s glitch was inexcusable and we are awaiting the results of our technical inquiry so we can put in place stringent and immediate procedures to address this."
The problem occurred at the "transmission centre", and was not the fault of the ITV Sport production team.
An automated system not designed for live events kicked.
The problem was fixed fast enough for people in the north to see the goal - but people south of the Midlands only saw the goal celebrations.
This could damage ITV's credibility at a time of unprecedented competitiveness.
