Watch Football Online - Referee Eliminates Chelsea from Champions League Final
In the most disgracfeul display it has ever been my misfortune to watch the referee in the Chesea Barcelona match Tom Henning Ovrebo had clearly made up his mind that under no circumstances would he award a penalty to Chelsea.
Four clear penalties were turned down - the first was given as a free kick outside the box when both payers involved were a yard inside the box. After that there were two clear handballs that were not given. In a less tolerant country I think the referee would not have escaped from the stadium unscathed.
It is obvious, as newspapers were saying before the match that UEFA had decided that there would not be two English clubs. They wanted Barcelona in the final and that's what they got.
"It was a f..ing disgrace" said Drogba "this match was a f....ing disgrace. We were stitched up" and he was right. It's a pity that more people in football don't stand up to match fixing.
Hiddink says it was the worst he had ever seen from a referee ( and he must have seen a lot in his career).
What is the point of watching so-called live football matches if the result has been decided behind closed doors in advance ?
Barcelona are in the final when they shouldn't be, so who cares ? Not many people apparently, as they prefer to "live the dream" - ha ha. I wonder what the result of the final is going to be ? And just who is it that decides such weighty matters?
What did people say ?
Gus Hiddink :"you have seen three or four situations waved away then it's the worst I have seen (from a referee). At this moment I have to think if I have seen worse."
"It's not just one decision in doubt but it's several not made decisions," Hiddink said. "In big games like this you need top-notch referees who have had big experience in the leagues of Spain, Italy, England and Germany." (That wouldn't have made any difference Gus - the ref. was clearly following orders).
Graham Souness said the UEFA would not be disappointed that there were not 2 English teams in the final again.
Barcelona defender Gerard Pique admitted that the ball struck his hand in the penalty area.
"To be fair the ball touched my hand but I didn't want to touch it," Pique said.
People should switch off their TVs and not go to matches - but of course that will never happen. But really if you know what the result is going to be before they go through the pretence of playing the match what is the point of watching it?
