In a shock development Alan Shearer will be taking over the manager's role at Newcastle United.

Sky Sports is reporting that Newcastle United will name Alan Shearer in a "managerial capacity" for the rest of the season.

Joe Kinnear is still recovering from heart surgery.

However, he could be moved upstairs as Shearer could be set to take over.

Newcastle are 18th at the moment in the Premier League and there is a distinct possibility that they will be relegated. Shearer is a legen on Tyneside but he has no managerial experience so why do peopl ethink he will be any good.

Newcastle's run in to the end of the season is not easy and possibly the toughest of all the teams fighting for survival at the bottom of the league.

Shearer's first game in charge will be on Saturday at St James Park against Chelsea, after which he will face Stoke, Portsmouth, Tottenham, Liverpool, Middlesbrough, Aston Villa and Fulham.

The news has just been confirmed on Sky Sports. We here don't understand why it is assumed that a good playe rwill make a good manager. But we are willing to be proved wrong.
